Jules Edouard Diart (French, 1840-1890) Still Life with Fruit and Flowers Signed and dated "DIART. 1859" l.l. Oil on board, 21 x 17 1/2 in. (53.3 x 44.5 cm), framed. Condition: Craquelure, tenting, very minor loss to u.l. edge near corner. Estimate $600-800 The work is oil on canvas laid onto Masonite or similar. Craquelure overall, withbull's eye circular craquelure emaniating from the center of the bowl of flowers. There are several areas of tenting to the craquelure in areas of retouch as described below. There is a major repair with retouch in a U shaped area measuring 11 inches overall and stretching from the right center of the bowl, following down through the peaches and arching to the window on the right.. Other retouch: on the leaf to the right of the signature and date; on the side of the table on the right measuring 1 x 3/4 in.; beneath the white blossoms in the u.l. quadrant; a small area beneath the signature. Framed dimensions are 26 1/4 x 22 3/4 x 1 1/4 inches. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
