Dudíková [born Kozinová], Anna (1914-1951) Painted Folk Art Ornament Sample Book, Straznice, Moravia, Czech Republic, 1922-1926. Oblong folio-format book, signed, inscribed and dated by Dudíková on pastedown and ffep, approximately 122 pages filled with colorful hand-painted folk ornaments, ranging from small single motifs, to borders, and large, full-page designs, incorporating flowers, birds, eggs, all in bright primary palettes with stylized forms, others with limited palettes, many dated neatly in pencil in Dudíková's fine hand, a few exist as light pencil sketches, some sketches inserted, blank leaves at the end, approximately sixty leaves with paintings on one or both sides; contemporary textured fabric spine and corners with crocodile-embossed patterned paper, very good, 10 x 8 1/4 in. Dudíková helped to found a craft co-operative of painters and embroiderers in the Czech Republic (then Czechoslovakia) in 1920, inspired by a similar collective run by potters in Modra. She focused on ornament painting and helped define the practice and style still current in the region today. Estimate $400-600 Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
