Fratelli Alinari (Italian, Late 19th Century) Mercato Vecchio. Titled in pencil l.c., artist's dry stamp l.r. Albumen print, image size 9 5/8 x 7 1/2 in., framed. Condition: Yellowing, photo of Saint Domenico and Saint Francesco from the Loggia de San Paolo on the reverse. N.B. In 1854, Italian brothers Leopoldo, Romualdo, and Giuseppe Alinari founded a photographic business called Fratelli Alinari Fotografi Editor. The brothers served as photographer, administrator, and businessman with the objective of photographing all the major Italian paintings, architecture, and sculptures. They also broadened their photographic scope to include Italian landscapes and cityscapes in the later 19th century.
