European Shell Guard Cutlass, c. 1745, iron hilt with detached knuckle bow and large shell guard, wire-wrapped grip, slightly curved forged iron blade with single fuller, marked with a running wolf on both sides and dated "1745," blade lg. 28, overall lg. 32 3/4 in. Provenance: Rodney Hilton Brown Collection; The War Museum. Estimate $1,200-2,200 Some pitting and wear on the blade but in overall good condition considering its age.
