Double-barreled Floor-standing Air or Vacuum Pump, first half 19th century, Boston Mechanics Institution, mahogany stand with molded edges and banded inlay, brass fittings, dual ratchet arms and cylinders, 12-in. dia. plate, later bell-jar, turned rosewood-handled crank, plaques reading "Boston Mechanics Institution to Mass. Char. Mech. Association 1838," ht. without jar 42 in. Provenance: A letter from the consignor accompanies the lot, stating in part that this instrument was found in Boston in the 1970s on Huntington Ave. Estimate $2,000-3,000 Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
