Robert Henri (American, 1865-1929) Study of Salome Embossed initials "RH" l. l. Charcoal on paper, sight size 19 x 11 in. (48.2 x 27.9 cm), framed. Condition: Toned, creasing to l.l. corner, small tear to u.r. corner, not examined out of frame. Provenance: From the artist's estate to Hirschl & Adler Gallery, New York, through to the current owner. Estimate $800-1,200 The sheet is hinged to the backing at three places near the upper edge on the reverse. There is mat burn and very pale foxing. There is a small loss to the lower right corner, a nick in the upper portion of the right edge, and scattered tears to the edges. Vertical tears near the center and right hinges measure approximately 1/2 inch each (the tear near the right hinge is partially repaired with a transparent adhesive patch to the reverse). A horizontal tear at the center of the left edge is repaired with a transparent adhesive patch to the reverse. There are scattered handling creases and creases near the lower left corner and along the upper portion of the left edge, and a dog-ear crease to the upper left corner. Framed dimensions: 25 1/4 x 17 1/4 in. Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
