Anglo/Irish School, 18th Century Pair of Pendant Portraits, Said to be Catherine Wynne of Hazelwood House (Sligo) and Michelbourne Knox Unsigned, sitters identified on handwritten labels affixed to the reverse, Catherine with a 1946 newspaper clipping about Hazelwood House also affixed to the reverse. Each oil on canvas, 30 x 25 in. (76.0 x 63.0 cm), framed (in liners). Condition: Lined, retouch, craquelure, surface imperfections and grime, Catherine with small puncture to u.r. corner. N.B. According to the labels on the reverse, the couple was married in 1766. Michelbourne Knox was a wealthy merchant in Sligo. The Wynne family were landed gentry with properties in Counties Leitrim, Cavan and Sligo. Estimate $800-1,200 Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
