Painting Depicting Krishna Receiving a Garland, Nepal, late 18th century, ink and opaque color on paper, Krishna seated at the center of a gathering of attendants within a palace, within red painted borders, an inscription in the upper border, page number upper left, framed and glazed, sight size 14 1/4 x 20 1/2 in. Provenance: Purchased in the U.S. in 1972 and descended in the Steig family. Note: For examples from the same series, see Archer and Binney, Rajput Miniatures, 1968, pp. 46-66; and the collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Estimate $7,000-9,000 Not examined out of frame. Some paint/surface loss particularly to corners and right edge, creasing concentrated at edges and corners, small holes and loss to paper lower left and upper right corners, minor areas of paint loss to other areas of painting.
