Navajo Banded Blanket, c. last quarter 19th century, woven with natural and synthetic dyed yarns, (a few small holes and dye run), 77 x 49 1/2 in. Provenance: Collected by William Giles Harding Carter (1851-1925), an U.S. cavalry officer who served during the American Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and World War I. He also took part in the Indian Wars, seeing extensive service against the Apache and Comanche in Arizona, where he was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Comanche Campaign on August 30, 1881.
