14-inch Rosewood Octant in Red-painted Case, 19th century, brass indexing arm, sighting pinnula, horizon mirror, and sunshades, scale from 0-95, and vernier 0-20, housed in a fitted red-painted keystone-shaped box with paper label reading in part "George Edward Nyberge Pavala 1861," with a paperback copy of Sailing Directions for the English Channel by Charles Wilson. Estimate $500-700 lid hinges need to be reset, small patch to lid on lower object left corner.
