French 16th Century Steel Masterpiece or Compagnon Lock, multiple stepped geometric and finely scrolled pierced decoration surrounding the key arbor above the three latch throws, reverse with an applied scrolled decorated key plate, lg. 6 3/8 in. Provenance: Edward S. Jones collection, Los Angeles. Note: This lock demonstrates the ability of the apprentice in becoming a master Compagnon.
