Fine Carved Emerald, the large hexagonal emerald carved with a Mughal flower motif, measuring approx. 35.10 x 41.40 x 10.48 mm, within a platinum-topped gold mount bead-set with rose-cut diamonds. Provenance: According to family history, the emerald was owned by art collector Emily Crane Chadbourne (1871-1964). After her divorce in 1905, Chadbourne moved to Europe where she began to extensively collect European and Asian art. Upon her return to the United States in the 1920s, Chadbourne donated much of her collection to the Art Institute of Chicago. The emerald has descended within the family. Note: Accompanied by AGL document no. 1091355, dated April 10, 2018, stating that the emerald is Colombian, insignificant to minor traditional clarity enhancement, with an accompanying letter. Estimate $30,000-50,000 Deep fracture to lower corner with brown residue. Possible break. Wear commensurate with age, especially at edges. Not examined out of mount. The absence of a condition statement does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of aging. Condition requests can be obtained via email (lot inquiry button) or by telephone to the appropriate gallery location (Boston/617.350.5400 or Marlborough/508.970.3000).
