Katharine Ward Lane Weems (American, 1899-1989) Whippet Playing with a Blanket Signed "KATHARINE W. LANE" on the base. Bronze with dark brown patina, height 7 3/4 in. (19.7 cm), on a green marble plinth. Condition: Minor areas of wear to the patina, dust and dirt to interstices. Estimate $1,500-2,000 Measurements of the bronze base are 3 1/2 x 13 1/4 in. Marble plinth measures 3 3/4 x 13 1/2 x about 1 inch. The plinth is thought to be original to the sculpture. The wear and surface dust/dirt seems appropriate to the age of the work - the signature implies that it was made prior to Carrington Weems in 1947. Provenance: Estate of Patricia Harrison Jacobs, Malverne, Pennsylvania.
