Joseph Witham (British, 1832-1901) Portrait of the Vessel John R. Kelley Signed, dated, and inscribed "J. Witham/L'Pool/1886" l.l. Oil on canvas, 24 x 36 in., in a molded and beaded giltwood frame. Condition: Minor repair, retouch. Provenance: Collection of Judge Jon Tom Staton, Edmond, Oklahoma. Note: The John R. Kelley was built in Bath, Maine, in 1883, and was lost in a wreck near the Falkland Islands. Estimate $2,000-4,000 approximately 4 inch repaired tear off the bowsprit and small repaired puncture nearby, with associated retouch and patching, minor spots and lines in inpaint in water l.r., and very minor spots in sky around rigging.
