Johann Mari Henri ten Kate (Dutch, 1831-1910) November Day/Landscape with Rabbits and Hunter in the Distance. Signed and dated "J. ten Kate f./856"l.l., titled on the mat. Watercolor on paper, 9 13 1/6 x 8 5/16 in., framed. Condition: Glued to a french window mat around the edges of the reverse. Provenance: Christie's New York, May 25, 1984, Lot 309 (illus.). Estimate $500-700 The French mat mounting is cut with a window, and the watercolor is affixed to the front of the window with glue around the perimeter of the reverse of the watercolor, so that the back of the watercolor can be inspected when the mat is opened. The reverse of the watercolor shows the remains of a secondary paper support that was partially removed.
