Martha Walter (American, 1875-1976) Sketch of Boy Titled, dated, and signed or inscribed "... /April 1905/WALTER" on the reverse, with two Estate of Martha Walter stamps from David David Art Gallery, Philadelphia, on the stretcher, identified on a Freeman's auction label (see below) affixed to the back of the frame. Oil on canvas, 22 x 17 in. (55.9cm x 43.2 cm), in a period frame. Condition: Minor frame abrasion to u.r. corner. Provenance: Freeman's, Fine American & European Paintings & Sculpture, December 5, 2010, Sale 1388, Lot 135; to the Massachusetts estate of the current owner. Estimate $1,500-2,500 Numbered "#589" and with a faint French canvas stencil on the reverse. Weaken and torn tacking edges visible on the reverse. Frame dimensions are 32 x 27 1/2 x 3 1/4 in.
