Marble-top Marquetry Commode, France, late 19th/early 20th century, overall inlaid with chainwork motif, molded shaped top over conforming two-drawer case, on cabriole legs with sabot-mounted claw feet, ht. 34 1/2, wd. 42 1/2, dp. 21 in. Property of the Saint Louis Art Museum, Sold to Benefit the Acquisition Fund Estimate $600-800 Some scratches to top, crack on left side, some small nicks to edges. Lifting, some areas of loss, and cracks to veneer, scuffs and nicks, drawers with splits. Sabot mount is missing from right foot. See photos. There is one that accompanied piece but it is very shiny and probably not original to piece.
