First edition, octavo, illustrated, with Henry Pickering Bowditch's (1840-1911) signature dated September 1861 on ffep (Bowditch served with the 54th Massachusetts in the Civil War), bookplates of Henry P. and Harold Bowditch inside the front board, bound in very good contemporary textured brown cloth, blind stamped, spine slightly faded, head and tail a bit crumpled, 8 7/8 x 5 1/2 in.
