American Documents, Colonial and Revolutionary War Period, Four. Including: a small cut document bearing the signatures of Dr. Moses Scott (1738-1821) and John Bayard (1738-1807); an autograph note signed by North Carolina Governor Gabriel Johnston (1699-1752) to a Sir John MacPherson, stating, " The events of yesterday have surprized me. Who wants bottom I know not, that some of the cabinet do, I am certain. To let the army of the enemy remain in force when you could dispense with them with your breath is madness. Not to have done it is fully bordering on imbecility. Fox sprung up like a cock that had escaped a snare, crow'd & looked around him with triumph and contempt. To lose the game with Ace, King, Queen against the knave & smaller trumps is a little vexatious. I am sick of Politicks. The King should go to Hanover, & Wm. Pitt to the Convent of Monserrat or some lovely place"; a note dated Hanover, 16 August 1776, recording a financial transaction between Aaron Waite and Aaron Hubbard for five broad swords, two swivels, & one blunder buss, witnessed by Joseph Soaner, with his signature; [and] a receipt regarding a transaction with the Baltimore Company and Charles Carwell of Carrother's, April-October 1772, detailing payments for John Welsh, James Franklin, Clement Brooke's and others' salary, along with rents and goods for the company, and other expenses.
