[Ireland] Stephens, James. Original unpublished manuscript "The Fixed Idea." Cover and 3pp. With typescript of the same. Signed in his pseudonym ("James Esse"). The essay reflects his Irish Nationalist views and my likely have been written around the time of his celebrated work, Insurrection in Dublin (1916): "Our hats and our houses, our art, our beer, our thoughts, our jobs -- they are English, and they are so because she was our fixed idea and forbade us to think of a social order, without which every other blessing is bunkum. A social order cannot be built out of patriotism, but a social order in itself is patriotism, and all the rest is anarchy and ignorance." Housed in custom 3/4 morocco over marbled boards slipcase and chemise.
