Birds of America. New York & Amsterdam: Johnson Reprint Corporation / Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, 1971, 1972. The Amsterdam Edition. Set no. 153 of only 250 sets. Double Elephant Folios, half calf and green cloth, gilt lettered spines with inset leather title panels on top covers. Measures approximately 39.5 inches by 26 inches / 99.7 x 66 cm. The 435 plates in this facsimile edition reproduce the Duke of Palmela's copy of the original edition, which is now owned by the Teylers Museum Foundation of Haarlem. Printed on pure rag wove paper from G. Schut & Zonen. The chromolithography and offset printing was by N. V. Fotolitho Drommel, Zandsvoort; the binding was by Atelier J. Thorig, Soest. One ambition of this publishing effort was to produce plates in the same size as the originals, and using modern printing technology, on superb paper.
