Edward and John Barnard, London, 1863 the domed lid surmounted by an infantryman, worked to show foliate and trefoil decoration above a beaded rim, the body with acanthus decorated C-scroll handles and an engraved cartouche reading This Cup/ was presented by/ The Lord Carington/ Lord Lieutenant of Bucks/ To Sergeant Alfred Stradling/ 1st Corps/ Bucks Rifle Volunteers/ Great Marlow/ as winner of the first prize/ at the volunteer meeting/ Wycombe/ 30th May 1864, among floral and geometric motifs, raised on a domed base. marked on underside of lid and on body 28 ozt 6 dwts Height 13 1/2 inches. Overall stable, attractive condition. Light to moderate surface scratching throughout consistent with polishing and age. Tarnish and polish remnants to recesses. Vacant cartouche without evidence or prior engraving. Interior lining of lid rim bent slightly out of round.
