17th century with a later base of rectangular form, the upper case fitted with three central recessed drawers carved to show a six-pointed star within a roundel among painted arabesques, surrounded by nine drawers decorated with twist carved columns and painted floral decoration, raised on a later stand. Height 54 1/2 x width 36 x depth 15 1/2 inches. Property of Jamieson Design, St. Louis, New York Provenance: Christie's New York, December 16-17, 2009, Lot 698 Upper cabinet in overall decent, stable condition. Retaining much of the painted and gilt finish but with scattered chipping and loss. Three of the exterior drawers lacking locks, one drawer with lock loose, rest of drawers with locks, no key. Central three drawers were originaly behind a panel, now exposed as panel is gone. Base slightly too large (deep) for chest. Holes to underside of chest do not line up with base. Two support slides on base suggest base originaly fitted with a fall front. Additional images available upon request.
