Cree Quilled and Beaded Otter Hide Pouch, c. second quarter 19th century, the U-shaped form decorated with two strips of fine quillwork in polychrome geometric designs, the fringe strung with a variety of early Hudson Bay trade beads, (damage), 9 1/4 x 6 1/2 in. Provenance: Collected by Thomas Hamilton Forsyth, an English officer of the 62nd regiment of Foot who served in Canada between 1856 and 1864. Literature: Thunderbird and Lightning , J.C.H.
