1897 oil on canvas 51. 7 x 21 cm (20 3/8 x 8 1/4 in.) signed and dated lower left ; old label on verso reading LOT NOTES Closson's was an important early gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio, founded in 1866. Early in the 20th Century, they were known for selling oriental rugs, American paintings, as well as Far Eastern and West African artifacts and Russian icons. It is reasonable to assume that this painting would have been sold at Closson's prior to 1950.
