Japanese, Meiji Period (1868-1912). Collection of two hand carved burl wood animal okimono or diminutive sculptures with lacquered finish. Each depicted standing on webbed feet, one with upturned neck and slightly open beak, the other with head turned downward. Organic curved shape of burl creating feathered body. Each apparently unmarked. Goose looking up approximate height 4.8", width 7", depth 2.5". Goose with head tucked down approximate height 3.25", width 7.5", depth 2.25".
