School of Sir Godfrey Kneller (British, 1646-1723) Portrait of a Nobleman Unsigned, inscribed "From the collection of the late/Dowager Duchess of Beaufort/Stoke Park" on a partial label affixed to the stretcher. Oil on canvas, 49 5/8 x 40 in. (126.0 x 101.5 cm), framed. Condition: Lined, retouch, craquelure. Provenance: Purchased by the current owner in 1994 from the estate of Edith Monroe of Newport, Rhode Island. Edith Monroe was a descendant of President James Monroe.
