(19th Century) Portrait of Juan Ignacio Galvez, 1841 oil on canvas signed, titled and dated (lower right) 27 1/2 x 24 1/2 inches. Property from the Collection of Dr. and Mrs. Jack Durell, McLean, Virginia Exhibited: The Denver Art Museum, 1978 In good, stable condition consistent with age. Canvas is probably re-lined. Layer of surface grime, particularly evident on the white portion of the composition. Light craquelure throughout. Dark dot between the eyebrows of the subject. Examination under UV light reveals scattered areas of retouch throughout, as well as several apparent horizontal creases to the canvas that may have formed when the canvas was re-lined.
