Luman Watson (American (Cinncinati, Ohio), 1819-1834). Federal Masonic stained oak and cherry tall case, weight driven clock with swan's neck pediment accented by three urn form finials above a hand painted dial with florals and gilt shields with scrolling in spandrels outside black Arabic numerals in chapter ring, two subdials within flanked by "L. WATSON CINCINNATI". Columnar supports on top portion of case, front with hinged and glazed door to access clock face, waisted trunk of case with hinged door to access interior overall set on bracket feet. Overall approximate height 98", width 18", depth 11.3". Note: In 1809, the young Luman Watson moved to Ohio where he and Ezra Read sold wooden clock works to local clock makers. By 1815 , the team opened a Cincinnati factory to manufacture the works and placed them in clock cases produced by local cabinet makers. Soon thereafter their partnership dissolved, however, Watson continued to make wooden works and obtain cases from Ohio as well as from other areas such as Kentucky. _x000D_
