English, c. 1810. A fine George III period sterling silver chamberstick in three parts comprising a round drip pan with cast and chased rocaille and leaf tip adornments surrounding a central urn form stem topped with separable candle cup with complimentary decoration, the pan with handle to one side holding a conical candle snifter with egg and dart banding (a silverplate replacement). Underside of drip pan with crowned V mark. Underside of drip pan and side of candle cup each with maker's mark "I.C", standard mark, city mark, date mark for 1810, and duty mark for King George III (1786-1821). Maker's mark either for John Cramer (English (London), registered 1797), or John Clarke (English (London), registered 1807. Snifter unmarked. Approximate height 3.625", width over handle 6.75", diameter of base 5.75". Approximate weight 14.5 troy ounces. Provenance: acquired in March 1952 from Bubat Antique shop, Konigstein, Germany whereby gifted by descent to consignor.Provenance: Property from the Estate of Mr. Eskild Bondesen of Copenhagen, Denmark. Note: Herr Bubat, proprietor of the above noted antique shop, stated to the purchaser that the piece had been purchased from Princess Margarita, granddaughter of Queen Victoria, and the piece had belonged to Queen Victoria.
