Gillray, James (1756-1815) Political Dreamings! Visions of Peace! Perspective Horrors! Later imprint, as copied by Carl Starcke and printed in London und Paris , 1802, numbered "No. XXII, XXIII." in top right corner, hand-colored, old folds, soiling, 14 x 11 in. "An illustration of William Windham's (1750-1810) speeches against the peace terms (29 Oct. and 4 Nov.) in which he said that 'Ministers signed the death-warrant of their country' and 'we are a conquered people'. By surrendering Malta, the Cape, &c., safeguards against a disastrous renewal of the war were abandoned. He asked 'are these idle dreams the phantoms of my disordered imagination?' France retained all her conquests, her control over the vassal republics, and recovered all her former colonies." (Quoted from M.
