Menon (fl. 1739-1795) La Science du Maitre d'Hotel, Confiseur, a l'Usage des Officiers. Paris: Compagnie des Libraires associes, 1768. Third edition, 12mo, illustrated with five folding plates, bound in full contemporary French sponge-decorated calf, gilt spine; folding plates protruding from textblock, most with tears, the binding intact without repairs, 6 1/2 x 3 3/4 in. "Cookbook writing flourished in mid-18th century France, Menon, a proponent of 'la cuisine moderne' over 'la cuisine ancienne' was the most productive and influential of French culinary authors of the time. His cookbooks were published in multiple editions, in various languages, in Europe and England, yet no biographical information has surfaced about his life."
