Chinese, mid 20th century. A pair of bright orange glazed porcelain luminaries or lanterns of leaping koi fish form with the round base being stylized waves and the reticulated body of the fish forming the rest of the lantern body, with ribbed fins to one side, a projection tail fin to one side, and gaping mouth forming the opening at top. Apparently unmarked. Label to bottom of each "Property of Jeanne M. S. McCracken, 1199 Park Ave., NY, NY 10028", Jeanne being the wife of John Edward McCracken (1936-2001), Princeton and Yale alumnus, senior attorney for Mobile Oil and consultant for Phillips International Art Auctioneers. Each approximately 12.25" tall, 6" wide, 6" deep.
