Wilcox Silverplate Company (American(Meriden, Connecticut), founded 1865), circa 1877. A Victorian quadruple plate two compartment jewelry box casket having a rounded handle mounted with chains to each side joining the cylindrical container with engraved floral scene on front of door, when handle is pulled back lid opens to a cobalt colored velvet lined interior at top and slides back to a further rectangular cobalt colored velvet lined interior underneath. The front of the box decorated with trumpeting flowers and vines centered with a bird, raised on four stylized bracket feet. Underside marked with illegible maker's mark and surrounding crossed hammers for Wilcox, "QUADRUPLE PLATE" around top and pattern number "1949" above "PATENTED OCT. 16. 1877". Approximate height 10.25", base width 6", base depth 5".
