Italian, circa 1820. Two Creche painted and gesso wood dolls, both with highly detailed features including sculpted hair and glass eyes, in elaborate dress; the woman with blue painted wood legs and clogs, the man with knee-high boots. Both presented on removable blue silk covered square base along accessories including a wood and mother of pearl inlaid guitar, six assorted polychrome decorated baskets of fruit and vegetables with paper mache camel (later). Approximate height of woman 18" (including 1.25" base). Approximate height of man 18.25" (including 1.25" base). Provenance: Purchased by the present owner from Delehar Antiques, 146 Portobello Road, London, on July 15, 1998.
