MISS VAN (French, 1973) DON'T WAIT TOO LONG OR I'LL BE GONE , 2015 Inkjet print on paper Signed in pencil lower right "Miss Van 2015" Numbered in pencil lower left "41/60" 18 by 18 inches As one of the most notable women in Street Art, Miss Van has been painting her women on the street since 1993. Her women embody sensuality and explore the intimacies of femininity with masked coifed women with swollen red lips, rouged cheeks, pink nipples and bustiers that are reminiscent of 1930's French cabaret. Her work has been characterized by, "women who, like Messalina, queen of wild hearts, have declined this fate, twining themselves in a dangerous seductive spiral. Lonely characters locked and squeezed in their self-seduction games, prisoners surrendered in their roles, but still able to love. The potion that Miss Van gives us is double-edged: it may inebriate and flourish but it may also poison and wither who will drink it. But isn’t it so, in the end, that seduction and power have the same substance?" $300-500 Categories: Miss Van
