Needlework Sampler "Catharine Eckman," probably Pennsylvania, dated 1842, worked in cotton threads on a coarse linen ground, composed of a central urn with rose above a brick church and churchyard with animals, inscribed with a poem, the maker's name, date, and the names of her parents, all surrounded by flowering vines, and bordered with sawtooth-cut satin and needlework corner blocks, (moisture staining to edges), 19 1/2 x 22 1/4 in. (sight), in a period frame with applied molded edge.
