Early Mourning Effigy, possibly Massachusetts, 18th century, the painted leather and sewn wig head wearing a gold-trimmed cocked hat mounted on a black silk ribbon with tassel, lg. 12 1/2 in. Note: The effigy may depict Anglican minister Reverend George Whitefield (1714-1770). Rev. Whitefield was instrumental in "The Great Awakening" in Great Britain and the American colonies.
