Saffer was a medical doctor who resided in Hampton Bays in Long Island, New York, from 1941 to 1967, and was a friend and doctor to the Burliuks. Burliuk requested of Dr. Saffer to paint his wife Naomi, the painting of which is the present lot. He then gifted the painting to Dr. Saffer as a token of appreciation and friendship. Sold with a signed letter of provenance from the family of Dr. Saffer.
