American, 19th century. A mahogany lap desk with brass mounts, rectangular in form and opening to reveal a felted writing surface, lifting for document storage, a lidded compartment with a turned knob, and several compartments, resting on a later stand with four tapering legs. Apparently unmarked. Approximate height 23.4", 20", 9.9".
