English, 19th century. A fine 19th century Victorian oval format silkwork (also called needlework) after the original painting by noted English painter Angelica Kauffmann (Swiss (active England), 1741-1807), "Fame Decorating Shakespeare's Tomb"-circa 1772, depicting an allegorical scene wherein Fame is shown as a beautiful woman scattering flowers over the tomb or cenotaph of William Shakespeare in a serene garden clearing. Framed approximately 18.125" x 14". Note: Angelica Kauffman was one of two founding members of The Royal Academy in London in 1768. Alternate spellings include: Maria Anna Angelika Kauffmann, Angelika Kauffmann, Angelika Kauffman, Angelica Kauffmann.
