Chinese, 20th century. A pair of cloisonne enameled mythical beast figural form boxes on footed wooden stands, each comprising a beast standing square on four flat feet with erect serpentine tail and tufts of hair to chest under upturned face, the tail as handle to lid forming the animal's back which lifts off to reveal single interior cavity, the whole with deep red ground decorated in greens, blues, and pinks in the form of scrolls. Each animal foot with impressed numeral 8 to underside. Approximate overall height 6.25", width 8", depth 3".
