Chinese School, late Qing Dynasty, late 19th / early 20th century. Group of two Chinese export (intended for Western consumption) gouache on paper figural paintings, comprising "Atrium Merchant Scene", depicting an open atrium where merchants stand behind a narrow counter decorated with swirling dragon motif, with a child and small black and white dog playing on the steps of the atrium, with a woman and child passing by; and "Seaside Courtyard", depicting a man with a carrying pole entering a courtyard, the courtyard with two children, one embracing his mother, the other embracing his father, with mountains and stylized pine trees in the distance, with sea water in the foreground. Each framed approximately 13.75" x 17.5". Each sight approximately 14.25" x 10.5".
