Chippendale Mahogany Carved High Chest of Drawers, associated with John Goddard and Job Townsend, Newport, Rhode Island, 1760-80, the enclosed scrolled pediment centering a fluted plinth surmounted by urn and flame finials above two applied plaques over two short and three long graduated thumb-molded drawers set into a lower case of one long and three short drawers above a cyma curved skirt centering a carved shell, above frontal cabriole legs ending in ball and claw feet, and similar rear legs ending in pad feet, old replaced brasses, refinished, (repairs), ht. 84, wd. 39, dp. 20 1/2 in. Provenance: The highboy descended in the family of Nellie B. Greenough, who began collecting early American furniture around the time of the Centennial.
