Two Carved and Painted Poplar Fish Decoys, Ken Thompson and his great-uncle, Gallatin County, Kentucky, late 19th century, polychrome painted with metal mounted details, one with feathers, traces of white and blue, with stands, (minor losses), lg. 8 1/2, 8 3/4 in., respectively. N.B. This family of avid fishermen purportedly obtained the wood for these decoys from the discarded window sashes of a local church. Provenance: Aarne Anton/American Primitive Gallery.
