Egyptian Revival 14kt Gold, Enamel, and Emerald Bead Necklace, c. 1900, lotus-motif enamel links collet-set with graduated old European-cut diamonds, the center motif a winged sun-disk flanked by cobras, suspending a fringe of emerald beads with pearl terminals, lg. 21 1/2 in., (later spring ring clasp, minor enamel loss), boxed. N.B. The cobras or "uraei" are symbols of kingship and therefore powerful emblems throughout the course of Egyptian history. The lotus blossom is a symbol of rebirth.
