Queen Anne Cherry Carved Dressing Table, possibly Connecticut, last half 18th century, the rectangular top with molded edge and shaped corners above a case of two thumb-molded half drawers and three drawers with shell and foliate carved fans on valanced apron joining four cabriole legs ending on pad feet, old refinish, old replaced brasses, (imperfections), ht. 36 1/2, wd. 29 1/2, dp. 20 in. Provenance: Descended in the family of Albert S. Rines, Esq. of Portland, Maine. Rines was a pioneer collector of early American furniture. An important desk bookcase belonging to Rines was pictured in Francis Clary Morse's Furniture of Olden Times (1902), illus. # 105, p. 135. A photo showing this dressing table on Rines' porch in Portland's West End, c. 1900, is included with the lot. Provenance: Descended in the family of Albert S. RInes, esq. of Portland, Maine. Rines was a pioneer collector of early American furniture. An important desk bookcase belonging to Rines was pictured in Francis Clary Morse's FURNITURE OF OLDEN TIMES (1902), illus # 105, p. 135. A photo showing this dressing table on Rines' porch in Portland's West End, c. 1900, is included with the lot.
