Ange-Joseph Antoine Roux (French, 1765-1835) Representation du Brig L'Abeille. Signed and dated "Ant. Roux Marseilles 1833" l.r., titled below, shown entering the Port of Marseilles. Mixed media including watercolor, gouache, and pen and ink on paper, sight size 17 1/2 x 22 1/4 in., in a gilt molded frame. Condition: Abrasion/repair l.r., staining and foxing, fading, and overall toning, not examined out of frame. N.B. A label affixed to the reverse recounts the ship's launch in 1801, the biographies of its commanders, and its transport of the Venus de Milo to France from the Greek island of Milos in 1820. It also bears the label of Child's Gallery, Boston.
