Continental School, late 19th/ early 20th century. "Nocturne with Castle", oil on canvas, apparently unsigned. Tonal painting depicting a moonlit landscape with stone castle at right on the shore of a serene lake, a city with steepled church rising up in the far background along low horizon line below a bright and full moon in partially clouded sky, the scene with a grassy bank to foreground with a single traveler looking over the water toward the castle. Framed approximately 28" x 32.25", unframed approximately 20" x 24".
