Fruitwood Diptych Sundial, English, circa 1650, with inscribed divisions and punched numerals, the lid exterior with an hour scale divided 1-12 x 2, the interior with vertical dial divided 6-12-6 and inner circle similarly divided, the base plate with printed compass rose, steel needle, degree scale in four quadrants, vertical dial divided 4-12-8 , brass gnomon strut and owners name Phil: Edwards , the side with latitude strut divided for 10-90 degrees, 4 1/4 x 4 in. (compass glass incomplete). Literature: See Scientific Instruments by Winter and Turner, pg. 132 for a similar dial, attributed to Henry Sutton.
